A Visit from Santa

Santa flew in from the North Pole especially for the event. The high winds didn't stop
him from landing his sleigh on the hotel roof and then he settled into a big armchair beside the fire
in the hotel lounge while all the local children came to visit him.

Christmas Tree lighting 2010
|
|
Here is a video of the 2010 Christmas tree lighting show. This is the one that started it all!
|
|
|
Our first Christmas Tree Lighting Event was staged on 5th December 2010. Given that we had
a giant Christmas tree growing in the hotel gardens it seemed like a good idea to
give it its full due with full Christmas decorations. Add the expertise of Glasgow-based
theatrical pyrotechnics company Hands-On and you end up with something pretty spectacular.
Technical Details
- There are 48 metres of icicle lights comprising 1920 individual lights.
- 1200 lights on the building
- 160 metres of lights wrapped around tree trunks
- 6 colour change spotlights
- 10 floodlights
- 2300 lights on the Christmas tree
Who did what
- David Boyle - all wiring and electrics. Great thanks to David and his entire team for the huge amount of work they put in.
- Hands-On, Glasgow - the pyrotechnics and the fireworks
- Blether Video, Glasgow - great thanks for producing the video that you see above
Keeping it Green
The first question many people would ask is whether it is responsible to light up a large garden at a time when we all need to be
cutting back on energy usage in order to control carbon emissions.
Luckily, lighting technology is moving so quickly that
we can now enjoy the Christmas lights and still be
environmentally responsible. All the lights we have used are either LED or 'A' rated, meaning that the entire garden display uses less
electricity than the three older style floodlights which used to be on the front of the hotel. LED technology had moved on
immensely in the past few years so that they can now be used for normal interior lighting as well as for things like Christmas
lights. They last for years and use very little electricity which helps us still have great Christmas lights without having
to worry about the carbon footprint.
See you in 2012 when the event will be bigger and better. Don't miss it!
