Location

The Glenisle Hotel is located in the village of Lamlash on the Scottish Isle of Arran

Known as Scotland in miniature due to its mountainous north and lowland south the Isle of Arran lies in the Firth of Clyde, enabling it to combine a feeling of remoteness with easy accessibility to central Scotland. Arran offers much for visitors, ranging from some of the best mountaineering and hill-walking to be found in Scotland, other sporting activities such as fishing or golf on its 7 golf courses, specialist interests such as ornithology and geology or for the less energetic simply exploring one of Scotland’s most beautiful and unspoilt islands. Brodick Castle and its gardens in the hands of the National Trust for Scotland is a must for all visitors, as is the distillery at Lochranza with its Visitors' Centre which offers tours and the chance to sample the unique Arran Malt.

Getting Here

The island can be easily reached by either of 2 ferry crossings each transporting both passengers and cars. The main approach from Ardrossan to the island port of Brodick takes about 55 minutes and advanced booking is recommended. Further information and online booking is available from the ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne: www.calmac.co.uk or telephone: Tel: + 44 (0)8000 66 5000

Good rail connections exist from Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour connecting with ferry crossings. Both Glasgow and Prestwick Airports are easily accessible to Ardrossan by road or nearby rail links.

Regular crossings throughout the day in summer are made from Lochranza to Claonaig on the Kintyre peninsula for which advanced booking is not required and a once daily crossing to Tarbert is made during the winter months. This “back-door” to the island provides access to the west highlands and the western isles.

An immediate feeling of having got away from it all is felt on reaching the island. If arriving by car the island's circular road takes the visitor either from Lochranza via Sannox and Corrie to or from Brodick from where the road proceeds continues about 3 miles south before dropping down to the very picturesque village of Lamlash. For visitors coming to the island without their own transport, bus services to all points of the island connect with ferries arriving at Brodick and more limited connections can be made at Lochranza. The Glenisle Hotel is found in the centre of the Lamlash village overlooking Lamlash Bay and the Holy Isle and a warm welcome awaits the visitor within.
